Site-Specific Radioactivity Characterization

This course covers the various requirements, methodologies, and impacts/benefits of effective site characterization during plant operation. Discussion topics will cover regulatory requirements or benefits of characterization, typical methodologies of sampling and analyses and potential results/impacts to an RP program for characterization elements. Specific topics include introduction to site radioactivity characterization, characterization and hard to detects, potential changes to contamination constituents, counting statistics and gamma spectrometry, waste stream analyses, scaling and correlation factors, plant system contamination, QA/QC basics and internal dose impacts.
